Opportunistic and distressed investing is our foundational strategy as real estate investment specialists. The current real estate cycle impacted by COVID-19 and the subsequent economic and capital markets disruption will create unique opportunities we categorize as ‘situational distress’ versus the widespread distress seen in the Great Recession.
The Sortis Rescue Fund will capitalize on the dislocation and market stress caused by the COVID-19 global pandemic and subsequent economic fallout. While we do not believe the expected recession will be as long as previous recessions, we do believe it was deep and intense enough to create situational distressed opportunities, particularly in hospitality, retail, office and select operating businesses.
The core senior team at Sortis has deep distress experience including working at all levels of the capital stack, placing debt and equity, acquiring distressed loans and REO, finishing partially completed projects, restructures, and bankruptcy. Sortis is uniquely suited for distress and the complexity surrounding it.
